Science Olympiad Event
The U of U Dean's office is sponsoring the Science Olympiad that is being held on campus Saturday, April 23. They are looking for help for the Road Scholar event. This would be a great and easy service opportunity to help increase interest in transportation engineers. It also looks great on a resume. Copenhagenize U of U, and Request for Pictures
Our student chapter is helping host a Bike Summit on April 5th at the Salt Palace. In conjunction with that event Mikael Colville-Andersen will be on campus the following day April 6th for a ride through campus. See attachment.
Also, as part of our annual student report to ITE, we would like to include as many pictures as possible. If you have taken any pictures of ITE activities over the last year (April to April) we would love to use them with your permission. |
Industry Panel Discussion in Layton Auditorium
Visiting Researcher Seminar in Construction Performance Monitoring
This Friday, February 26th at 1:15pm (Layton Auditorium) we invite you to attend a seminar presentation on construction performance monitoring. Kevin Han from the University of Illinois will be presenting on the use of visual data analytics and his research on this topic. In particular he will be addressing the use of visual data to improve communication, performance management, and short term planning during construction. See attached flyer.
ITE Field Trip to WavetronixWe would like to invite all interested students to attend a field trip to Wavetronix this Friday, February 12th. We will be leaving from the traffic lab at 12pm, the tour will be from 1pm - 2pm in Provo and we will be back to the lab around 3pm.
Wavetronix makes all of the SmartSensors that are utilized for traffic data collection, dilemma zone, and real-time analysis throughout Utah as well as around the U.S. and France. Check out their website: http://www.wavetronix.com/en |
ITE Field Trip to Horrocks Engineering FirmThe ITE trip to Horrocks Engineers headquarters will be in Friday, April 1 from about 1pm to 4pm . The actual tour will last from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and we are planning to meet in the traffic lab around 2:00 for snacks and coffee before carpooling to their office in Pleasant Grove.
Horrocks is excited to have us and will be showing us around and talking about some of their transportation projects. We would love to have everyone who is available come along! |
ITE Utah Chapter Annual Meeting
ITE Utah Chapter Annual Meeting is next Thursday, January 28th at the Rice Eccles Stadium. We have an opportunity to send 4 students for free to the conference! ($40 otherwise) In order to attend free you will either need to present a poster during the breaks and answer questions from attendees who come to your poster, this could possibly be a poster of previous work at other conferences that has not been presented at the ITE annual meeting. If you would like to attend but do not have a poster presentation, let us know and we will determine interest to see if the ITE student chapter can pay some or all of your registration, or work out additional arrangments. Club Rush
Club Rush is this Thursday, January 21st from noon to 3pm. Free pizza! You are invited to check out all the engineering clubs in the College of Engineering. It will be in the Catmull Gallery / Foyer in the WEB. We are also requesting volunteers to let others know about ITE and our fun activities! Volunteers would be at the ITE booth for 90 minutes answering questions and letting others know about transportation.
ITE Utah Chapter Christmas Party
ITE Utah Chapter Christmas Party will be held December 15, 2015 from 12:00pm - 1:30pm at the Greek Market Parthenon Room at 3205 South State Street in SLC. Stay tuned for more information to come.
ITE Lunchon
Tuesday Nov. 17th is the monthly ITE luncheon. The November meeting is a joint event hosted by ITE, WTS, APA and CNU. It will be held from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Pierpont Place, 163 West Pierpont Avenue, SLC. (We will be taking UTA bus route #2 leaving at 11:00am from the Traffic Lab) Topic: What Makes People Walk: Measuring Urban Design. Come have lunch with many of our professional partners. At the same time, discover and practice the use of a new survey tool, developed in part by faculty and staff at the University of Utah, which measures the walkability of a street. ITE luncheons in December and January are cancelled for the Christmas Party and Annual Chapter meeting

FREE Green Bike Tour of Salt Lake
This Friday, September 25th, we have a great field trip planned to tour the Green Bike stations in Salt Lake. We will be provided FREE Green Bike use as we bike in Salt Lake including a visit through the new Protected Bike Intersection at the corner of 300 South and 300 West. Andrew Gemperline from Avenue Consultants will be providing the lecture in Seminar tomorrow, September 23rd from 11:50amto 12:45pm (WEB L104).
Andrew was the director of Olympic Transportation Planning for UDOT and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) in preparation for the 2002 Olympics held here in Salt Lake. He has many years of experience in the transportation industry and will be providing stories about some of his projects. We highly recommend attending and hearing about real solutions to transportation problems.

ITE Utah Chapter Luncheon Today! FREE for Students
The Utah Chapter is holding their monthly meeting luncheon. It is always the third Tuesday of the month but since Sept 1st was a Tuesday this month came very quickly! The luncheon is at the Spaghetti Factory in Taylorsville which will require about 20 minutes to get there. If you are interested in attending this free luncheon for students and start networking in a casual setting come to the Traffic Lab promptly at 11:30am so we can organize a carpool and leave quickly.
Club Blitz
We will be looking for volunteers to man the table for the ITE Student Chapter, with 2 people each hour. We will be promoting membership and inviting people to come to the opening social for ITE!
